(1819-1891), was a county prosecuting attorney from 1843 to 1847. He represented Indiana in the U.S. Congress as a Democrat from 1849 to 1851. He was Attorney-General of Indiana from 1856 to 1860. He was a U.S. Senator from 1875 to 1881, and was in favor of hard money and a protective tariff.
