A chemical compound which contains the CO group (ketone group) in combination with two atoms of carbon, e. g., CH3CO.CH3, dimethyl ketone. An oxidation product of a secondary alcohol, thus bearing the same relation to the latter that an aldehyd does to a primary alcohol.
