An English writer of travels, brother of Edward; born in London, July 20, 1838. He has written "Travels and Adventures in Alaska" (1869), and "Heroes of the Arctic and their Adventures" (1875); and compiled "The Sea: Its Stirring Story of Adventure, Peril, and Heroism" (4 vols., 1878-81).
