Commander of the Salvation Army in the United States; born in Bengal, India, March 21, 1853. He held positions in the Indian Civil Service until 1881, when he resigned to join the Salvation Army. Among his published works are: "Life of Gen. William Booth" (1898); "In Darkest India and the Way Out" (1899).
