An American pulpit orator and author; born in Lebanon, N. H., Oct. 20, 1810; died in Philadelphia, Nov. 25, 1886. Among his published works are: "Eloquence of the Colonial Times" (1847); "Proverbs for the People" (1848); "Republican Christianity" (1849); and "Westward Empire" (1856).
